Sol Schwartz's vibrant drawings have captured the beauty and excitement of music, theater, and dance in the Berkshires for more than a decade.
As the curtain rises and the lights go down, the energy and emotion of live performance provides the inspiration for Schwartz's art. Created on location from his place in the audience at Tanglewood Music Center, Shakespeare & Company, Berkshire Theater Festival, and Jacob's Pillow, his artworks reflect the intensity and focus of his gifted subjects, providing a unique window onto their experience.
The artist's original drawings and sketchbooks will be on view at Norman Rockwell Museum through November 28, 2011.

Sol it was wonderful to see you again. I've never forgotten being with you on your tour of Australia. Would love to see the sketches you must have done at the Sydney Opera House. I treasure the sketch you did of me waiting for the fairy penguins on Kangaroo Island.

What a wonderful glimpse into Sol Schwartz's creative process! While I can't say that MY hand would ever know what to do when drawing in the dark, it's amazing to see how Sol's hand really can find the way and capture the essence of performers in the moment. Each sketch is an object lesson in how to "be here now." Elayne's cameo performance in the finale was perfect - her smile radiant, her hat festive, another person who has taught me so much about living well in the moment.
