As a scientific illustrator, I prefer to paint from actual specimens. The painting I just completed, "Dana Fork Rainbow," was inspired by a wild rainbow trout I took on the fly on the Dana Fork of the Toulamie in California's High Sierras. This short video gives some insight into my artistic process and the reasons behind some of the Choices I made. Limited edition giclees, as well as open edition prints, of the painting are available at www.KarenTalbotArtOnline.com.

  • I love it, I am a self taught fiberglass reproduction artist, basically a taxidermist in layman's terms although I don't actually work with the dead fish. I paint the fiberglass blank off of a picture that people give me and they take a length and girth measurement and let the fish go and I give them a trophy to hang on the wall, most people have no idea how hard it is to blend the colors on a trout and the accents are the easiest part. I do it on the side and hope it will be my living soon.

  • good one

  • I love your work! Thank you for spending the time to study and portray such beautiful fish.
