Please learn from our mistake! Low head dams are extremely dangerous and should be avoided at all cost. Not knowing how dangerous the dam was, we stupidly got too close to the dam in our raft, and it could have been deadly.
Here is the news footage from the incident.

  • Valid point being made about low head dams, etc., but I HATE how the news reporters just go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on - making like 30 seconds to a whole minute of decent story - into 5 minutes of story with 4 minutes of add libbing bullshit.

  • This is very big of you to put this video of your experience on Youtube. You have undoubtedly saved lives by doing so. Good on you. We the viewers are very glad to see you in the day-after interview, instead of your parents. (Hand shake and pat on the back)

  • hahahahahahahahaha stoner adventures gone bad.

  • lifejackets are not the best thing when you are trying to get out of a hydraulic. they keep you near the surface, and thus in the backwash. without a lifejacket, you catch the current below the backwash and wash out. of course, you need to know how to swim.

  • around here the Dams are clearly marked, and no boating zone quite a ways above the dams

  • Actually, you sometimes can't see a low head from up river. That's no excuse mind you, but they can be very difficult to see.

  • if they did it around our Dam they wouldnt had made it....... and who needs warning signs? you can see a big ass Dam?

  • how about some warnings at the river access put ins before they even get to the dams, and does Iowa have life vest laws like VA, not that they will always save you from a lowhead dam keeper hole but no vest is almost always deadly
