@SitarKnight Funny, since it was Central Park Media who did the dub. Funimation never owned this one. And I know this because I wrote the translation and about 3/4 of the dub scripts for this show for CPM. :^)

Mikage in the end was a victim of lost love and the loss of a boy that he was fond of (and it doesn't help that his memories were tampered with). I actually dislike Utena because she flat-out refuses to understand that those surrounding her, no matter how melodramatic, have problems thrown at a curve to them.

all hail midorikawa-sama and his sexy voice

Funimation did an amazing job on the dub for this show.

As much as I love Evangelion, the fanbase can be really insufferable snobs sometimes. "EVA IS THE BEST SERIES IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND AND YOU DISAGREE YOU ARE LEGITIMATELY RETARDED" being repeated like a mantra by some really make me sick.
I have to say though, I ended up marathoning Utena very recently (I finished on the 11th of June 2011, I found out the same day Tomoko Kawakami passed away on the 9th, may she rest in peace.) I've found myself liking Utena even more.

this series truly rivals evangelion! It is both beautiful both inside and out and has some serious depth. love the symbolism in this series.

I love it! Although for me it would have been better with full ending."but he didnt exist in the first place. Just like you."-that was creepy in a good way.

@papillonaquatique well, Mamiya existed. Apparently he died, and he saw that as a failure that wrecked his chances with Tokiko, so in his delusions he got all obsessed with making Mamiya all immortal and crap. It turns out that after Mamiya died, he started the fire, so really he's just being a fucked up twit.

@KrispyApplez I'd say they're about equal.

Were Mikage and Mamiya really a pairing? This is also my favorite episode in the series but I never really understood the Mamiya relationship too well since he was a figment of Mikage's imagination. I actually own several cels from this sequence.
Revolutionary Girl Utena is such an amazing series. It forces you to think beyond the beyond, and really opens up your mind. It's got amazing characters, a superb story....It's way better than Evangelion!
