A consideration of traditional v. new 3d jewellery design and rapid prototyping techniques by http://www.cad-man.co.uk who has over thirty years in the jewellery design and manufacturing industry in the heart of London's Hatton Garden
Thank you for this look at my industry and how it is changing. These are the same situations, tools, and changes as NYC. Computer Aided Design is a necessity now . But, bench skills that are being lost in the next generation are still a necessity as well. Even if you make something on the computer it must still be finished by hand. The CAD work is the beginning, not the end. A CAD Designer/ Model Maker must understand the complete process of how jewelry is made.
