John Mellencamp performs his classic Check It Out from his album The Lonesome Jubilee LIVE at Farm Aid 2008 at the Comcast Center in Mansfield MA just outside of Boston on 9/20/2008
My thoughts exactly on Kenny Aranoff. A much better drummer that really helped define the Mellencamp sound in the rhythmn section, at least. I read once where he would reverse the placement of the individual drums in his kit in order to develop a unique beat. Very innovative and "frantic". That is missing in this version. JCM's voice is fine. What do you expect for 50 years of cigarettes? It's not like he ever wrote his songs with high Brian Wilson or Jon Anderson notes. He's hittin' em fine.
@znarf541 It's only natural that his voice will deteriorate over time..... He sounds pretty good to me! It's Probably close to 20 years old.... This song is like a family anthem to me! All time Mellencamp song. One of his best!
I just witnessed this man singing this song about 3 hours ago. He opened for Bob Dylan, after Wiilie Nelson. The show , the band and He were outstanding. JCM deserves a whole lotta respect, at least as much as Dylan gives him.The Man Rocks ! Rock on Johnny Cougar !
21 years prior to this, I saw the greatest concert of my 100 plus concert life....John Live at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis. The static electricity from that show should have started fires around the world.
he is incredible LIVE. this is one of my fave male singer/songwriters. right there with Dylan and Petty. thank you. love this song!

I like JCM, but his voice doesn't sound great here. For me his best albums were The Lonesome Jubilee and Big Daddy, classics...
