I have been working with Jackson to teach him to rear differently. I want him to use his loin and back muscles more to pull himself up. I have clicking and rewarding when he lowers his hindquarters and uses his back more.

His front end is still all upside down and we are working on that, but I think we have made progress. I hope that he will be able to do a levade in time, as the right muscles develope.

  • ... put his hindquartes far under himselves, and i can't get him to lift both frontlegs.. :(

  • @Marixxen2 Thanks! We are getting closer and closer to a real levade! Little by little, as he grows stronger in the piaffe, he gets close. To get a true levade requires a horse with tons of strength! There aren't any short cuts to a true levade. Some horses rear's are more controlled and some look like Jackson's. :) The first thing I would tell you is teach your horse to sit on some hay bales. Check out my two videos of teaching it. PM for more info!

  • maybe youd best do it from piaffe (if you can??) becuase it looks as if he's finding it hard to gather his strength from halt.

  • @unicorndream You are probably right! He doesn't know how to do the piaffe or I would work on it from that. That is how I have seen them do it in the SRS (spanish riding school). Thanks!

  • You do so great with your horses :)

  • @SmallvilleFanatic600 Thanks you so much!

  • @Doctorzombie101 but it's your horse! you can do whatever you want with your horse!

  • i wish i could teach my horse to rear but my trainer wont let me

  • You get closer to levade from your piaffe work, because you are asking him to bring his hind end under him and crouch more and more, becoming engaged and collected. Here, he starts to use his hind end, but then you drive his head up when he should be lowering it in collection. You should think about driving him into a wall and stopping the front end (an imaginary wall -- pressure on his chest or nose), while asking the hind end to come even more forward and under him. I hope that made sense!

  • Really, it looks more like you're on your way to a levade if you get some more control of the frontlegs when you've got the hindquarters. =) btw, you look like you really know what you're doing ;) so i'm hoping for some help here. Because i wanna teach my horse the levade, and not a wild rear. there for i have to teach him to put his hindquartes under him, en then rais his frenleg slightly. could you help me??? how did you do it? Beacuse iæm stuck at making him....

  • aww :D hes so beautiful :) how did you teach him to do that?

You and your horse are awesome! :D
