@Mality When you think about it, it wouldn't be right to have the voice sound like a rotted corpse, since the narrator is actually thinking this, not telling anyone, and this is his internal monolouge.

@Topophobia I wanted the protagonist to sound somewhat weak,innocent, and lonely. I always took this story as much more sad than scary and I hoped that this intonation would help people sympathize with the character thereby making the ending slightly more unexpected and impactful. But, I can understand why someone wouldn't like it.
