@BMcbugger yes there are hereditry bunions. mine started forming from when i was about 9, we always had our feet measured and had correctly fitting shoes. my mums feet are bad, my grans feet are worse, and my poor great nans feet are just plain disgusting. i'm getting mine removed. They are very painful and i'm only 22.
@SM1135ster nothing works. bunions only get worse and surgery is the only way to be rid of them. I have bunions myself and i'm getting fed up with being told that "alternatives" work, because they dont
Actually, the results of virtually every scientific study I've come across suggest that it is exactly overly tight/poorly fitted shoes that cause bunions the vast majority of the time. Just one example is the fact that bunions are extremely rare and/or non-existent in populations that never or rarely wear shoes/footwear. Furthermore, there is no hereditary gene that specifically causes bunions. Heredity can cause other issues that may make bunions more likely or secondary (i.e. arthritis).
there are exercises you can do, my dr never told me that! also never get the cortisone shots they suggest they damage your tissues (you actually can get bee sting theraphy instead) again your dr. won't tell you this. also yoga toes helps alot and bikram of bikram yoga claims you can flush out the debris with time again this dr. will never tell you that why cause these tards learned surgery and that's all they know to make a living. there are your feet look into alternative medicine it works
@dempstead you can't just fix the joint because all the muscles and tendons and bones have been effected. the bones them selves are out of place and you have to break them to put everything back in place because all is connected to the bones.
i got this surgery and its painful to live with bunions but they never said it would hurt like hell to get it done i had one foot done and live as you know it is put on hold for two months if you have kids pre plan you will need all the help u can get

I had a bunionectomy last June. Mine was caused by hypermobility.
