Trashion Fashion Show Tamarindo Recycles Costa Rica
Papaya con leche Uno Solo.
The Recycling program is now firmly established. It has so far recycled 7.5 metric tons (16,540 lbs) in its six recycling days-the seventh will be on September 13th-and is working towards establishing a permanent recycling center in Tamarindo. While the organizers do get some money from selling the recyclables, they say that it is only enough to cover food and beverages for the volunteers, so they have come up with a new fundraising idea. Its called Trashion Fashion and it is a fashion show that will feature outfits made only from recycled products.

We went to see a fashion show put on by the kids of Educarte Gina DiMaggio told THE Tamarindo News. Everything they were wearing was made from old things. It was so cute and cool that we thought that we should do an adult version to raise money and awareness for the recycling program

The show will feature designs created by local designers Kata Kis and Petra Beuthner .

We plan on 25 outfits which will be shown by eight models said Kata Kis, Six of the models are professionals and two have been training with me for a while and will totally surprise the crowd. The most used material in the outfits is plastic which is also the biggest polluter, though designers have incorporated many other materials including used bras.

Trashion Fashion will take place at Tamarindos Bar 1 on Thursday the 11th September. Doors open at 7pm and the show will, begin at 9pm. Tickets, which cost 5000 Colones and include a free drink, are on sale at Bar 1, Uno Solo and Papaya con Leche. Admission will be restricted to 200 people and organizers say that sales are brisk.
