My friend is the mother of 2 children. She was telling me that she and her husband want to wait 2-3 years before having another child because they have been hearing about the benefits of child spacing. She is nervous about the different child spacing methods and has been hearing different opinions. She asked me: Are modern child spacing methods safe? Can I still have children when I stop using a child spacing method?

As a doctor, I told her that modern contraceptive methods can help a husband and wife safely and effectively space their children. These methods are safe for men and women and they do not cause birth defects in babies. A woman can still have children when she stops using a child spacing method because almost all methods are temporary and reversible.

Another nice thing about child spacing methods is that there are many options to choose from, depending on what a couple prefers. A woman can stop using a method and change to a different method if she does not like it. Anyone interested in using a child spacing method should talk to their doctor to determine which child spacing method is right for them.

Child spacing helps mothers get back their strength, allows fathers to spend more time with their children, helps children grow strong, and enables the community to establish peaceful families. In the end, child spacing methods are only a means, the results of which are in the hands of Allah.
