@mbunny076 ya thats basically what i was trying to say. it seems like blizzard is labeling the players that left a "lost cause" and their just gonna concentrate on keeping the casual players they have and recruiting new casual players.

@Croner2323 A LOT of people came to WoW from SWG after it was basically killed, because it was the only other decent MMO at the time. Most of them left WoW for SWTOR, taking with them a lot of the friends they made on WoW, and it is doubtful they will return. Instead of trying to win back old players, Blizz is trying to gain new ones from Xbox/Playstation generations, and chasing away the existing players in the process. WoW will be around for a long time, but it won't be the same.

@mbunny076 Yeah, but blizzard is only doing that because their game is so old and they are losing a large portion of their hardcore subscribers. When people like TotalBiscuit and the yogscast basically denounce WoW, thousands if not millions of people will follow them. These are mostly hardcore gamers, the ones who take the time to watch internet videos about games. Blizzard knows it's audience and who they want to attract and that's all they're doing.

@Croner2323 The age of the game is irrelevant in this aspect. The changes Blizz have made and are proposing for 5.0, are aimed at simplifying the game on a level that isn't needed. Their current attitude is that it shouldn't take any effort to reap the best rewards (I have email from a GM that basically says that word for word). With 5.0 this will be amplified to not requiring much of any effort to play the game at all. Turning an RPG-MMO into an arcade game is not going to help it.

I would not consider Rift a next gen mmo. It is quite boring and is really just a grind fest. Next gen mmo is not just about pretty graphics but rather it is a a metamorphosis of the genre. A true next gen mmo will transform the standard of the mmo genre. It will be the game that others will be compared to just as wow has been all these years. In my opinion Guild Wars 2 is the only game on the horizon that I expect to see a true "next gen mmo" emerge.

@mbunny076 i dont think you can really blame blizzard for doing specific things wrong. they are working with a really old game and just doing whatever they can to help it survive as long as possible and they are doing a pretty damn good job with all this new competition. personally, im gonna stick with swtor and possibly gw2 but there are still a lot of people who still stand by wow

@Croner2323 Blizzard is doing a much better job at killing WoW than the other MMOs coming out. Their incessive "we're doing this because we have no idea which direction we want to go" approach where they ignore all the people that actually play the game, is pushing people into playing other games, to a much greater degree than the other games pulling people away from WoW. Rift is incredibly boring coming from WoW, TOR has much greater entertainment value, even if you're not a SW fan
