Dianna loved spending time outdoors; camping, hiking, working in her yard. Being active became more difficult as she developed severe sacroiliac pain. As the pain got worse, it traveled from her hip to her back and legs. It made life very uncomfortable. Dianna couldn't sit, stand or lie down comfortably. After several spinal fusion surgeries and injections to try and relieve the pain, she came to the Spine Center at The Nebraska Medical Center. There, spinal surgeon and medical director Dr. Peter Lennarson suggested SiFusion, a minimally invasive surgery that uses small incisions and titanium rods to stabilize the sacroiliac joint.
The surgeon is guided by x-rays during the procedure which typically takes about an hour.
For many patients, SiFusion may be a good alternative to the previous surgical method which was much more complicated and time consuming. It also resulted in a much more difficult recovery for the patient. With SiFusion, patients can often leave the hospital after just an overnight stay.
Dianna is walking again and looking forward to regaining her active lifestyle.
