Easy walkin' ride with plenty of bounce ouncin'. ;)

Next to Jimmie Lunceford and Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman had a hell of a sax section - consistently. It's them that gives this cut fluid drive. ;)

  • Re the sax section - my memory may be failing me but isn't this the one where Benny plays alto sax in the section and *doesn't* take his usual clarinet solo?

  • @Hudsonburg I'm not sure, but it could be - BG's clarinet is certainly nowhere to be heard here.

    This is the first I'm hearing of BG playing alto with his own band, though.

  • Benny Goodman had a hell of a band all around. All the man cared about was getting the best musicians around up on stage, regardless of color. That took balls in 1939... balls and integrity.
