Located in the heart of Mumbai, the Dharavi slum is like a city within the city. Now ambitious plans for redevelopment mean its days are numbered.
Home to one million residents, Dharavi is a hive of activity providing Mumbai with an essential recycling service. However, the slum will soon give way to brand-new apartments. Developers claim everyone will be re-housed into better accommodation, but unfair rules mean most families won't be able to benefit from the change. Driven out of their homes, they will lose everything. As one mother puts it: "We will stay here until they demolish, then we're in the hands of God."

  • we have fine malls, restaraunts, parks, shopping centres and just about anything else you can think of here in mumbai. i hope these images of slums don't stop anyone from coming and visiting our city. as we don't judge all of america based on the ghettos and the people living in tiny, rusty trailers, don't judge all of us based on slums. we have a ton of poor in the country true, but we also have more middle class and rich than most western countries due to our sheer numbers.

simply interfere language and culture . and main things is ego , indian are 300% ego selfish minded , u can deny this . atleast . u can c the results where india is now , and where china at present . there is no comparison left between by china . the reason is simple and clear , rich guys never ever try to help poor , if they become middle class they rich guys valves get degrades , so one need to be king and other to be slaves . and simply in the name of NGO , stealing the money .

  • Ciao!

  • everyone knows mumbai where i live by slums its not just the slums

  • i have a lot more to write, but i wish not at the current time as words do not mean anything, words are just words. Actions speak bigger then words.

  • time is short i have 6 years left in univesrity to study architecture... =[

i wish i could be the architect right now and redevelop the 400 odd acres into this amazing utopia for these people,

the people currently living there will not have to relocate, as i will build homes, schools and hospitals for them to live a more enjoyable life, i wish to give these people a second chance.. its like karma you give or you do something good in life for other people and it will reflect into your next life.

  • All they need to do is clean up the mess, build them houses and business, wait 1 year at a time and see how the place will thrive along with the city, when all seems well then include them and treat them equally with the rest of the city meaning moneywise etc...

  • haha they all no life

  • yeah...poverty is dominant in a country like india and its simple because of the large scale population and the attitude that people posses here...people work hard no doubt bt they aint got a long term vision about the future perspectives and all...secondly i never felt the development in this nation due to some recent upcoming of any political party...coz yeah the thing is very simple as it is a democracy govt wud think abt the ppl first nd nt a million bt a billion plus..it paralyses you..

  • and dharavi too
