These are endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals, found only in the Hawaiian Island chain. We did this dive near the tiny island of Ni'ihau in 2004. If it's not obvious from the clip, these adults weigh 600-800 lbs, yet seem more like pussycats than bears.

  • Thanks! They really seemed to love the bubbles from our regs, but were curious and playful, too. I'd definitely do that Ni'ihau trip again, even though the boat ride across the channel was a bit on the rough side (okay, more than a bit, but Dramamine helped.)
