@Dogar230 It had 1.08 million admissions. Break-even point was 1.77 million. A bit of a flop, but respectable after incredible controversy. They had guards checking bags at the premiere!

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if this movie was popular in South Korea?

Park's dictatorship was much oppressive and pervasive than Chun's despite Chun's massacre of Kwang-ju citizens. Chun wanted to put a distance between his dictatorship and Park's regime and at least restored direct presidential election even if election was rigged (Under Park's Yooshin Constitution, people could not vote president directly and only approved candiates could run for parliament). My dad believes that Korea would still be under Park's dictatorship if he wasn't killed by Kim.

I wrote more about the assassination in Part 4 of this movie, so I won't repeat them here except to say that many people are less sympathetic to Director Kim because of failure of coup, which only brought another military dictatorship under General Chun. But my father, who lived under Park's dictatorship (and actually knew Chief Agent Park, called Chief Agent Ju in the movie, and was a classmate with Chief Secretary's brother), thinks that Director Kim did a great service by killing Park.
