  • We're doing the same thing here in Oakland. Tons of prunus street trees to use as roostocks

Electrical tape doesn't naturally deteriorate so it must be manually removed once the scion has taken otherwise it will cause damage/deformity. Parafilm is the best stuff to use in my opinion

  • @BikeManDan1 cool stuff! I saw your bike tricks video that was awesome! Do you think I should take the tape off by now?

  • @FullBellyFitness Ya, you could probably check them now. You could also wait more, a month more would probably be fine. The tape shouldn't do damage until the new branch starts to really grow and swell (which the tape then constricts)

  • @BikeManDan1 Thanks for the info!

  • @minhle3 hey it did not take so perhaps the answer is no or at least in this case it was not

  • @davidj0x1 Is there a rare fruit grower's group near you? Perhaps search "scion exchange" near your area. You can collect them from the tree when you prune it I think

  • @armitius66 Yes you can.

  • @dugojajac perhaps you can make a video? The graft didn't end up taking but that could be because it was the wrong season. Thanks

  • Cultivars are grafted onto the rootstock not the other way around!!!

  • host could be prunus cerasifera purpurea?

  • hi James, i love your video!! I posted it on my Facebook page, I hope you don't mind. I made a grafting video too, it is called How to Graft the Tree of knowledge, you might like it.

  • hello guys and Greetings from Serbia (Yugoslavia).

I know what you meant to explain theoretically but practically it shows you guys are inexperienced (nothing wrong mind you) . you did not cut and insert new branch properly, it was left way to much out, should be cut a bit shorter and inserted a bit deeper into the host tree.

I did not explain it properly in english but I wish I could show you practicaly what I mean.

all in all it's nice try.

good luck and do not give up. you are great

  • Is it possible to graft apple to pear or vise versa? How creative could you get without harming the tree?

  • cool video. One question though where do you get scions. I cannot find a shiro plum scion anywhere?
