The final budget agreement reached by Governor Mark Dayton and GOP leaders provides about $1 billion dollars to each of Minnesota's higher education institutions--the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota State Colleges and University System (MnSCU). The funding reflects about a 10 percent reduction from the previous biennium.

On this week's Capitol Report, host Julie Bartkey explores the future of higher education with Senate Higher Education Committee Chair Michelle Fischbach and lead DFL member Senator Sandy Pappas. Plus, the University of Minnesota and MnSCU have new leaders, and Julie talks with U of M President Eric Kaler and MnSCU Chancellor Steven Rosenstone about their new roles and future direction.

Finally, Senate GOP members call for legislative participation in establishing a health care insurance exchange, which is required under the new federal health care law, and House GOP members announce their "Reform 2.0" campaign.
