Here's the "Level Of Excitation" Method. To use it, you only have to know the get-in and get-out sequences for the excited-state siteswap tricks you wish to transition between. Knowing those, you can write transitions both ways.

  • Awesome! I had no idea that the "entrances" and "exits" had to do with level of excitation. This was a very informative video for me! Keep them coming!

  • @TABjuggler Well, what is the "level of excitation," if not the state?

  • I always look forward to your videos. Thanks.

It might be worth it to mention that siteswapping doesn't affect the level of excitation. So for example the transition shown between 741 and 714 is 355 which could also be a 751 just by swapping the 3 and the second five.

I'm curious though... after finding just one transition doesn't 'swapping' exhaust all of the possible transitions in that 'level of excitation' for that period?

  • @guitarsolointhewind Yes, it does, as I mention. "But, they all end up doing the same thing, ultimately." There are different ways to think about the origin of transition sequences, some of which might resonate better with some people than others. I'm trying to reach almost everybody, though, with these multiple interpretations.

  • You know, it's funny, I've never thought of the trick when doing it as "561" I've always done a "55" to get in, though of it as "615" though I guess thinking about it the exit of a "3" only works after the "1".

Though... Looking at if the way I do, you could go from 714 n times straight into 615 with no transition throw. Infact....55 71461561741 3 should work to switch between all 3?

P.S. I am a big fan of siteswap, regardless of my actual juggling skill, so I thank you for these videos.

  • @meshunderlay That's a good point about 561. It's level of excitation is 5 when in the 561 rotation, and 55 when in the 615 rotation. For that matter it's 556 when in the 156 rotation. Since it has both the 5 and 55 levels, "of course" you can use it to transition between 714 and 741. The same goes for 566151, whose level of excitation is 55 when drawn in the 661515 rotation.

  • @BruceBoppoTiemann siteswap is still half black magic to me! :P

  • Very good! A friend of mine caries a little 'cheat-sheet' (well more like a 'cheat-booklet') which contains a lists of all the common siteswaps and various transitions for each one (to/from fountains/cascade)... I can imagine a very well prepared spreadsheet showing direct transitions from siteswap to siteswap!
