AIDS and sexuality remain a major taboo in many Islamic counties. According to the 2008 UNAIDS report, Sudan has the highest HIV epidemic infection in the Middle-East and North Africa, with up to 420,000 people living with the disease.
In predominately Islamic Northern Sudan, many HIV positive people fear Breaking the Silence because of the stigma associated with the disease. The few that have braved the test talk about the disease and the consequences of being open about their HIV status.
