Rania is of Greek origin and yes I have that book she wrote, too. It's good for explaining the different kinds of shimmies and there is a CD included. She trained in the U.S. and then started working in restaurants and clubs. Also check out a DVD called "On Fire" of performances by American bellydancers including Rania, Ansuya and Aziza. She has two performances on this DVD.

I love the way Rania dances and according to me she is one of the best dancers on you tube. Believe me i've seen many and she's number one as far as i'm concerned. The rest are too stiff or showing off too much which makes their way of dancing look forced and unnatural. Rania may be american (i'm not sure) but i'm arabic and seeing her dancing to 'accordian beledi' bought tears of joy to my eyes. Finally a bellydancer who respects pure and ancient bellydancing the way it should be danced to.
