Mitte is the bustling neighborhood right in the center of Berlin (and part of former East Berlin).

After 52 weeks (one entire year!) it's time to say goodbye again - but not quite yet to all of Berlin (although it was a close call). We've decided to stay on a little longer and are just changing neighborhoods again. So the 52nd weekly video is dedicated the geographic heart of Berlin: Mitte.

To be precise it's a personal view of Mitte, featuring spots that are meaningful to me (and not all fit):
Rosenthaler Platz and Scott and Sankt Oberholz and Rosenthaler Grill
Plattenbauten and Squat and new buildings on Linienstrasse (and Kleine Rosenthaler Strasse)
Alias street art on Brunnenstrasse
Alexanderplatz with Weltzeituhr and TV Tower
Hackescher Markt
Cheesecake at Kaffee Mitte
Alt Berlin
Wei Wei and other street art on Alte Schönhauser Allee (across from Good Morning, Veitnam)
Weinmeisterstrasse Haus
Elke Holzapfel and Mandy Witt at Soma
Robert Mapplethorpe exhibit at CO Berlin on Oranienstrasse
Tacheles with Polizei and Scott Solary and John Jasek

And last but not least "The Beach" on the Spree across from Museumsinsel where we've had many sunset beers and will hopeful bid farewell to Marisa Baptista tonight before she moves back to Portugal tomorrow.

Oh, "what a difference a year makes" or "Kinder, wie die Zeit vergeht".

And the amazing song you've heard in this video and also in the "Ciao Kreuzberg" episode (Week 14) is the still unreleased track "Berlin - New York" by Ralf Zwiebel (of Radiopilot and All Button In).

  • Great video. Makes me miss life in NYC. Very similar vibe.

  • @GabbySantistevan

Thank you. I also see a lot of similarities between the two cities. I think that's why I feel so comfortable in Berlin.

  • Wonderful video...You can feel the pulsing energy of Mitte right along with the music. I enjoy your one minute views of the city!

  • @imsixftsix Thank you so much. I'm glad you think I captured the spirit. I love that song from Ralf Zwiebel. It's actually the second time I used it (the other one is in "Ciao Mitte").

    Have a great weekend.

  • Hallo Luci,

    Viele Gruesse,

    Luci

    Hello dear Azzarb,

Now that I know that the tomatoes ended up not doing so well, I still hope I'll get to see some other impressions of your world.

    Best wishes,

    Luci

  • @azzarbprime We used to have a "terrace" like that in Brooklyn. Our garden was the roof of a hardware store. It was the only time in all of our NY apartments (there were 7 I think) we didn't have a yard. Now in Berlin I only have a balcony. But it's a real treat to have outdoor space looking down on the bustling street.

Dear Azzarb, I hope you and your partner will harvest lots of delicious tomatoes this year.

    Luci

  • @azzarbprime Dear Azzarb and the elusive Mr. b.

I now have a balcony and this weekend my mother visited and we planted a bunch of flowers. No tomatoes this time - but I'm right on the street so I don't think they'd be so delicious.

  • @TelevisualFilmes Hello Team Televisual. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It's a special place. I hope I get to see Brazil one day. But I think Portugal is first for me since I am in Europe now.

    A sisterly hug back ;-)

  • Hello, Luci!

Thank you for sharing In A Minute Berlin (Week 52) on Mitte! One look very special and interesting about East Berlin.

A fraternal embrace of friends in Brazil!

  • @kevinsmullinbrown I actually gave this a true LOL - okay, maybe it was a COL (chuckle out loud). I was thinking: Wait a minute, Mitte Schnitte? This may be one of those Mitte and Schnitte haters. And then I saw it was you, Kevin. Gut gedichtet, mein Freund. See you on my new balcony soon (without 6 smokers)?

    xxx Luci
