Overtime as most things get "westernized" many aspects are lost, such as many of the original martial applications, i.e. the ton of Chin Na applications traditionally used with tai chi...once it became a art for JUST health in the west most if all these aspects were lost...So yeah you can kick a tai chi guy in the ribs or choke him out...If you can catch him...good luck laying a solid hand on a REAL tai chi master

I teach Practical Tai Chi Chuan (Wu/Cheng). And our forms definitely aren't the authentic, secret, old, mystically powerful ones, they're just part of the long evolutionary chain of the forms ;-)

@lebarosky I'm an instructor myself, and I wasn't dissing the content. I was addressing the "authentic" part. Everybody teach the "authentic" forms, and it's all bullshit. Tai Chi has evolved and changed like all other martial arts have and should. The old forms are long lost and I don't get why that isn't just fine, but they have to always sell it as if it's some stagnant, rigid thing that has never been changed.

It never ceases to amaze me about how many experts come out of the woodwork telling us about how all dis Tai Chi stuff is BS. I've been practicing Arnis for over 15 years and am now learning this form. Trust me, it takes some skill and teaches you a lot!
But, as I have sadly found out, U tube is full of philosophers. long on opinion, but sorely lacking in practice, diligence and experience. You know, (B.S. Artists)!
