@owen82100 No one nation can hold the monopoly for long. People thought that the British empire would never end, the greatest empire in the history of man that covered over two thirds of the earths surface, yet it all came to an end. We then saw a US/Russia split, Russia toppled itself, in part through poor economic management. That led to the US monopolising from the 70's onwards. Its just America's time to step down and pass the mantle to China. Nothing they can do about it.

@owen82100 In order to do that you have to be able to borrow money and the Chinese have played the long game. They downgraded Americas credit rating and caused many western agencies to follow suit, evidence that many are looking to the east and China as the new Economic powerhouse. The economy leads...the military with an ever expanding capability shortly follows. Its Political and IR fact , I'm a BA (Hons) Politics graduate and this is the way it is, powers rise, powers fall.
