@Innomen But you said in your previous post, that martial arts are outdated, and pretty much pointless in modern society, if thats the case, whats the point, go join the snipers school if you really feel the need to be manly and predatory. If you want to spin and throw an object around, take up baton twirling, and if you like doing somersaults and flips, join a gymnastic team. What is on display above shares much more in common with both of these than traditional Japanese sword arts anyway.
Because combat is a part of what we are, especially males. We are a predatory species. And while it may not be 100% optimized for combat it could still be used for combat. And in this era of oppression, having any semblance of a weapon that cannot be taken away is a good thing.
Also learning to fall properly becomes second nature, and can save your life later on.
Then why study martial arts, if they want to be honest with themselves go take up dance or aerobics, why dress up in outfits and use WEAPONS from another culture, when they are not being used as weapons, use a baton. State of mind, physical development, and personal growth are all valuable things in any pursuit, and I completely agree that some of these guys show amazing talent, and do things that most traditional artist could not do. But this is not martial arts.
They are just upset because as combat goes all the "serious" martial arts are outdated, by like centuries. This is not west point or sniper school. THATS how you kill.
The performance artists however are being far more honest about it, they aren't even trying to say they are badass, they are just saying it LOOKS badass.
Its about state of mind, physical development, and personal growth. This has as much of that if not more than "real" martial arts the snobs like to talk about.
This is an art of performance, form, strength, and execution not combat. As a practioner of xma I still practice traditional styles and mma. This has some martial arts element in it but its is performance grade stuff. Its not that serious I just ish people would get over it.
what you dont understand is that traditional martial arts and self defense are taught and often masterd by these competitors then they incorporate these extreem kicks for competition \ and like you said for show.. and the yelling demonstrates intensity which is an important part of martial arts
