At the official first day of summer, I saw one of my all-time favourite musicians for the fifth time in eleven years. Mark Oliver Everett, better known as E, took his ever changing band Eels to the Muziekgebouw in Eindhoven. After seeing them as a rock trio, a full pop rock band, an ensemble with strings and an eclectic duo, Eels had become a bearded rock combo (with copper instruments!).
After the last time I saw him, E treated the world to a trilogy of great records. He would play a lot from that (especially the Hombre Lobo record) without neglecting his older work, sometimes playing songs in quite different arrangements from the studio version.
This is the fourth of eight songs I recorded.
Hot Fun in the Summertime was originally released by Sly & the Family Stone in 1969. It's not on any of Eels' studio albums.
takes some balls to pull this off

Nice write up! The first time I saw e, and his everchanging band was the No Strings Attached tour (can't recall the year, summer of 2006 - I think). Second time was September 2010 (not sure what that tour was called, but they covered Summer in the City), I had the pleasure of seeing him(them) for a third time during the Tremendous Dynamite tour, in August 2011. I can't wait for the next one to begin!! Thanks for the upload!
