Poverty in Chicago is a full-length documentary that takes a raw look at the conditions experienced by Chicago's estimated 110,000 homeless inhibitors. The film tracks the director Brian Schodorf's personal exploration of the overwhelming urban homeless problem Schodorf began to learn about upon moving to Chicago from his former home in Wichita, Kansas. Schodorf takes the viewer into the lives of nearly 15 homeless men currently living on the streets, concentrating around Chicago's South Loop. This film is an exploration of how the drug afflicted homeless population affects society as a whole with exclusive interviews from many of Chicago`s most respected experts and lawmakers. Those interviewed include Senator Jacqueline Collins, Alderman Toni Preckwinkle, Director of Chicago Recovery Alliance Dan Bigg, and well as professors from Columbia College, University of Chicago, and Chicago State to name a few. Schodorf's developed relationship with the men allows the viewer to get a true inside look at what life is like as a permanent resident of the streets. I've told you, now I'm gonna show you,' says one homeless man who leads Schodorf and his crew through the most crime infested areas of Chicago's south and west inside the drug trade itself. Real and uncensored, the film addresses the problems most members of society ignore on a daily basis. It shows all aspects of the drug problem from 50-year-old panhandlers to suburban teens who stick themselves with the same needles. Poverty in Chicago shows how homelessness effects us all.

  • This is ridiculous, that man does not get section 8 while simultaneously, I know of a couple who are college educated and are employed that get section 8.

  • how that fuck is he gonna get section 8, when i know people that own 2 houses and still have an apartment under section 8, they pay 180 dollars a month for that appt, and they rent it for 1000, that's what pisses me off people with real needs are left behind, and for us the middle class they want us to pay more taxes while they give tax cuts to multimillionaires THAT"S SO FUCKING NICE,THAT"S WHY AMERICA IT"S GOING DOWN THE DRAIN

  • povertyinchicago is a bs site, doesn't offer any info or assistance... If you're gonna recommend something make it useful not advertising for debt consolidation

  • damn I feel bad for that guy with the arm and leg off he definitely deserves section 8.

  • They are waiting for Cubs tickets!

  • Section 8 is a government program that pays a portion of a low income families rent.

  • This is what the other side of capitalism looks like.

  • @jenn1ifer OMG thank you for saying it right. I fucking hate drugs, cant believe i used to even use any of them. Im glad i quit before i became a loser like i would have been. Drugs are the hell we wish the world didnt even have to imagine. Its worse than death in my opinion. Death is the release from this hell, but only when the maker is ready. Anything else is torture.

  • @nathan102485 Its a mix of the system plus the people in it, who are the sheep who still at to the worsening of our living situations. When the birds are a certain age, momma kicks em out of the nest. If they dont fly, they die. Nature wins everytime. Drugs make ppl become the bird who is like "no, dont push me, im not ready, no, let me do what i want. Im special. You dont understand." Just like pigpen from Charlie Brown, a cloud of nasty surrounds them. And our taxes pay for their shortcomings.
