A Medley of Ilaiyaraaja and Shankar-Jaikishan

I tried playing the song "Oru Kanam Oru Yugamaaga" of Maestro Ilaiyaraaja and the immortal Lata Mangeshkar Solo "Yeh Shaam Ki", side by side to let everyone appreciate how the master composers of North - Shannkar and Jaikishan inspired the stalwart of South, Maestro Ilaiyaraaja. It is very clear that Ilaiyaraaja's song is original in its own right. The orchestration of the interludes and the strings backing is an absolutely indigenous trait of Ilaiyaraaja. And yet he is one musician/ composer who gives due credit to True and Original Music. In this case, he fittingly pays tribute to Shankar - Jaikishan with his own interpretation of Music that expresses a Pining heart's state of mind.
