1/3 Taken from the DVD 'Grimm Tales by Candlelight' this is one of the many hundreds of stories collected by the brothers Grimm in the 19th Century. It is a story of reward for those who show kindness. The ending contains all of the extra obstacles that the king puts in the way of the hero obtaining the promised prize. This part is usually missed out but I think that it is essential to show the courage the youngest woodcutter's son has in the face of all that is done to him. I was fortunate enough to have access to the costume department of the People's Theatre in Newcastle upon Tyne and I am very grateful for their help and advice.
