However a new round of wet weather is moving into the region. (June 15)This is exactly what flood weary residents in the Midwest don't want to see -- a new round of wet weather moving into their area. The rain could make an already dangerous, and damaging situation in Iowa, and along the Mississippi River even worse. And it comes just as waters are starting to receed in places like Cedar Rapids -- The Cedar River has fallen roughly six feet since its crest on Friday -- and as it does -- city officials say they're starting to get a glimpse of the incredible destruction left behind. The city planned to set up 10 checkpoints where residents will have to show ID and sign in before being allowed to return home to begin removing belongings. Houses where damage is severe will be off-limits 24-thousand people had to leave their homes. Traveling in Europe, President Bush was briefed again on the damage this morning in Paris. SOT; Bush It could still be another week before the Cedar River is down below flood stage. But as that river recedes - Authorities are keeping a close eye on other rising Midwest rivers, including the Mississippi - Two levees broke near the Mississippi River town of Keithsburg, Illinois yesterday.
