wow you just made me lol. not all the fish did this only i small portion did the ones living near the land ie in swamps the fish staying in the ocean stayed as fish becouse they allready adapted to living there, they carried on evolving making them more efficient but with the more or less same shape. the fish living in the swamps needed a better way of travelling through the weeds and plants that blocked the way. so they evolved limbs to push them through when they realised that they could be

that they could be used on land aswell (there was food that they could exploit on land that no other animals could get to this meaning there was no competitors making land a safer bett including the fact that there werent large predators on land at the time. as the land animals met differant obsticles to live in ie trees, caves, grass lands they adapted/evolved to be able to live there more efficiently to live there too
