I agree totally with Vidyanjali. In art one should avoid comparisons. One doesn't say which raag or which colour is "superior" to another. It is a question of personal reactions...
One CAN of course make comparisons in technique - but to do that you have to be 1) an expert 2) be on the spot, and 3) judge on the SAME piece done by the different exponents.
Making judgements based on short excerpts seen on the screen is very immature ... to say the least!
That was a pretty good interpretation of the Javali in Telegu. I don't think we should compare dancers and comment on who is better. Each artist has her own strong points. Some are beautiful, some are expressive, some know to use their eyes well etc. Thanks for a lovely performance Hema.
Hema Malini is not the best of bharathanatyam dancers nor was she a good actress. To me Vyjayathimala was the best combination of actress cum dancer from the south, even today past 70yrs of age she still gives a few performances is admirable, and she can also sing. In today's bollywood, heroines do not need any classical training, it is just gymnastic's...
Hema Malini is no doubt an excellent dancer but she is not even close to Vyjayantimala IMHO. Vyjayanti looks extremely happy while performing. Her mudras are clean and footwork is with vigor and clarity. Hema's on the other hand seem clumsy in comparison(ref part 1) Vyjayanti's facial expressions are elaborate as they should be for a stage performance. Vyjayanti brings insurmountable grace, dignity &joy to her performance & Hema seems focussed on technique, and looses the aesthetics.
