Located in Michigans Upper Peninsula on Lake Michigan on the desolate Snail Shell Harbor, this is an abandon smelting town that has been renovated so that the past comes alive.

  • I love Fayette, visit it every year. Great video except one mistake. The mineral at Snail Shell harbor is dolomite, not limestone.

  • Yes it is dolomite, but what was said is "Workers harvested adjacent hardwood forests to fuel the tremendous fires used to melt the ore and quarried limestone rock to help purify it. The limestone was quarried from Inland Lime and Stone Quarry at the end of county road 431 in Gulliver, MI.
