Mawlānā Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Balkhī (مولانا جلال الدین محمد بلخى), also known as Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī (جلال‌الدین محمد رومی), but known to the English-speaking world simply as Rumi,[1] (30 September 1207 17 December 1273), was a 13th-century Persian poet, Islamic jurist, theologian, and mystic.[4] Rūmī is a descriptive name meaning "the Roman" since he lived most of his life in an area called Rūm because it was once ruled by the Byzantine Empire.
According to tradition, Rumi was born in Balkh, Khorasan (now in Afghanistan), the hometown of his father's family.
This city was at the time included in the Greater Persian cultural sphere of Khorasan, the easternmost province of historical Persia, and were part of the Khwarezmian Empire.
He lived most of his life under the Sultanate of Rum, where he produced his works and died in 1273 CE. He was buried in Konya and his shrine became a place of pilgrimage. Following his death, his followers and his son Sultan Walad founded the Mawlawīyah Sufi Order, also known as the Order of the Whirling Dervishes, famous for its Sufi dance known as the samāʿ ceremony.

  • Sufi can be both Shite & Sunni. The main point of Sufism is to know ourself through our minds & hearts. Suffi is a persian words which means Safa (CLEAN).

  • @aryanforyouking : True but in Shiism we call it irfan (mysticism) and not sufism. The terminology sufism is not used by Shia Muslims. In other words, in shia Islam, we already have myticism and it is called irfan rather than sufism due to some differences of practice between the sufis and Shia Muslims who apply mysticism.

  • @heartscience : hey i to am a christian ....what u replied to robertteuma was right yet wrong....if someone's religion is different does not mean he is wrong he is just unaware of the muslim sufi and saints and pious shah sb's ...but any song of praise whether for a christian or a muslim...remember God is one it just its just the way we praise him makes it a bit different..im not trying to be absurd ...i to have strong belief's..tc

  • I really don't understand Why we have to ruin a beautifull dedication to God, cal him God, Khuda (allah), Bhagwan, Wahe guru or what ever you want, at the end we are just nominating one. As said by Sai Baba (the real one, who wasn't Hindu, Musslim or Sikh) "Every one belongs to one ("Sab ka malik ek")".

As I'm Hindu, I respect every one, and I'd really like if none interfere with religion, 'coz religion + politics just takes to hell.

  • @aryanforyouking (صَفا) safa is a loanword from the Arabic for purity! صُوف meaning wool also comes from the same root as safa. It refers to the woolen cloaks and garments worn by the early muslim ascetics.

  • Wunderbare dieses Lied !

  • @aryanforyouking IN Assyrian/ Babylonian Language the word (Sephya) means : Pure or Clean as water

  • Any race, color, religion can love this movie as much as I . "Jodah Akbar"

    Wonderful!😃

  • I got a horrible jolt when the poppy, bollywoody bit started about 1:36 - I had thought these guys were giving some sort of actual concert-hall/cultural performance.... Lol! Talk about dissonance!

And then...despite the cheesy movie production-values, somehow... maybe because the depth of feeling in the voices, the song itself, is real... well, somehow it just pulled me in all over again. Does something in your chest, doesn't it?

  • I do not understand a word that is being sung...However the very music tells me that this song is devine..My entire being is quelled...Such is the power of good music-Jairaj Singh-Trinidad & Tobago..

  • I Love this song

  • when i listen to this, I feel like crying coz its so beautiful & i forget all my problems, they are really gifted to sing this...I feel like their is still hope:-))

  • @SUKHDEV001 don't believe in god but I agree with you, religion + politics divide people. Relationship with god should be personal.
