"Venus and Mars," What a fantastic album, "Paul's" best Wings line up to date. "Wings over America," is great too, yet, Paul was not done creating great music thereafter untill---"Run Devil Run." The only good song on that album is "Brown eyed handsome man," I wonder what color "Paul's" eyes are now.

@aarfeld I'd say Paul wanted to get away from some of the negativity of the late '60s. Hard drugs were around a lot. Friends had been dying. Paul himself had been burned out und depressed from the pressures of the Beatles breakup. He just tried to relieve from it all.

@aarfeld (2) fully understood how special and talented he really was all by himself--- Not needing to lean on anybody.. Rip john you'll allways be missed..

@aarfeld I dont Know I think they all needed eacthother I think paul wrote his best work with the beatles And paul allways knew how to make a commercial pop song. just because john didnt have mega success without the beatles maybe that was by his own will and the fact he wrote songs like imagine instant karma working class hero and watching the wheels and many many more the list is actually pretty long I think it's safe to say he was pretty good on his own Its just a shame I dont think he really

@tranurse: One could make the argument that of the four of them Paul best adapted to the changes in popular taste in Pop music in the '70s. But tastes grew increasingly vapid in an increasingly shallow era as the decade wore on. So it begs the question: What was the goal in this adaptation to the era? By the end of the '60s he was composing very mature music. But in the '70s he was again chasing after teeny boppers, like it was 1964 all over again. Why?

@aarfeld i think he just had fun and played with music. there are a lot of influences in his music in the 70's. but then, look at a song like 'silly love songs', it's really pretty complex. i will admit that 'goodnight tonight', is silly, but it does have a killer bass line. and a lot of the songs on the albums, that weren't released were very serious and kind of experimental. so he wasn't completely selling out.

@tranurse: I think that it's clear that Paul is a happier man with a stable, down-to-earth personality. John's life was a mess--but perhaps that made him a more interesting artist. That bit of criticism was agreed to by fans and critics as well. It always mistified me that after having been one of the principle architects of the raising of pop to a serious art form, Paul went back to making the kind of music that The Beatles did circa 1963-'65, before they started to get really interesting.

@aarfeld i just meant that paul seemed to be happier, and his music reflected that. john spent the 70's commenting about how paul's music was vapid and silly.

@tranurse: "i get the impression . . ." They made their choices, but you can't expect to maintain a career in pop music if you don't get out there and hustle your albums. " it wasn't bad or good . . ." That's not the point. Arguably, of the four of them, Lennon produced the highest quality solo albums. But he didn't tour in support of those records and so by the middle of the decade he was increasingly a forgotten man.

@tranurse: "well, they were all in different places . . . " Yeah, John and George were sitting at home when they could have been out promoting very good albums, especially in the case of John. They could get away with being strictly a studio band as The Beatles--but not as solo artists. "paul was married, had babies . . . " And still managed to tour every year besides.
By he middle of the decade John and George's careers were in serious decline--in large part because they wouldn't tour--while Paul, and even Ringo, were having greater success. Hmmm, I guess they needed Paulie after all.
