The introduction to Mario's Smashes. Keep in mind that this is only an introduction. Other uses for these moves will be referenced in greater detail in further videos.

Forward Smash
Damage: 13-25%
Range: Medium
Comes Out: Frame 15

Marios Forward Smash is the strongest of Marios smashes and it also has the largest range. You can also extend the range of Marios F-Smash by turning around and using the smash in the opposite direction. This is called a "Stutter-Step F-Smash"A "Stutter-Step F-Smash" can give you justthe range you need to punish longer ranged attacks. To Stutter-Step F-Smash, quickly turn around and Forward Smash using the C-Stick.This move is unique because you do not have to Sweetspot the move to make a kill. The sourspot actually provides more knockback.

Down Smash
Damage: 12-21%
Range: Medium
Comes Out: Frame 5

Down Smash is the fastest of his 3. It also has great knockback and can kill horizontally at higher percents. Use this move to deal quick damage and create some space between you and your opponent if you're in a tight spot.. Mario sweeps his legs around in a circular motion meaning that it will take a little bit longer to reach behind him. But this is not a disadvantage, use this to punish those who like to spot dodge or roll. It's good to use if you predict an opponent who rolls behind you. When Mario's sweeps the back of him, he'll get with him on the comearound. -Ray/Boshi

Up Smash
Damage: 14-19%
Range: Medium (Behind and Above)
Comes Out: Frame 9

The moves Sweetspot is behind Marios head so you can use it out of your shield if you are facing away from your opponent. Up Smash can also be used as a combo starter/juggler at lower percents. The way you use Up-smash should be different depending on your matchup and playstyle. Against a character like Ikeyou'll want to spam that Up-smash to get 14% on him every time he whiffs on your shield. Against a hard to hit character like G&W or Metaknight you'll want to save that Up-smash till 110% and keep an eye out for that one moment where you KNOW you got yourself a guaranteed KO. -A2ZOMG

  • @FireMario149 okay i have been having trouble with my marth main friend, when i play him as a mario main myself, i have trouble with him and his fast priority attacks, what should i do, try to use my airs, or smashes? cuz it seems no matter what i do, i always end up getting caught in his b-combos, and dodging does help a litte, but before i have anytime to counter im sent well on my way by his shield breaker. i hope you can help me out a little.

  • @carsonma20132 MariovMarth is pretty hard, but in your situation, I'd say you should try to recognize and bait his attacks. Afterward you can counter with what ever you want and keep pressure on. Basically, just try to keep upclose to him.

  • Anyone recognize the music?

  • The F-Smash can be tilted up or down as well, which is great for small targets that would stand a little too low to be hit, or hit a falling target a little early.

Works on some other characters too! I know it works on Mario, Luigi, and Kirby. Maybe Sonic, too.

  • I believe that the Stutter F Smash is a skill all mario mainers must know. That move has helped me out a lot. It may seem difficult at first but it goes easier to me. It helped me and it may helped you.

  • actually i always use a down smash follow up, cuz i no they arent gonna just land on top of me so i can use an up smash, so if they land next to me, (or not) and roll (or not again) i have the security that im not going to take any damage from a counterattack, especially with mario, cuz of his d-smashs short time, i can almost immediatly follow up if they decide to roll away and come back in. so yea d-smash has saved me so many times in the past, nice to see it actually explained for once.

  • That song is nice. What is it?

  • No.
