  • It does not have a commutator, It has a slip ring..

  • Alternators do not have a commutator ..

    Alternators have slip rings .

    DC Generators have a commutator .

    There is a huge difference between the two arrangements .

  • yes make sure you rebuild it on the front of the car so when you drop stuff it falls down inside the engine bay. good work

  • I think my head is going to explode! never learned as much as i did about cars this past week! I a newbie at cars and already have changed my fuel filter, air filter PCV valves, spark plug, distributor cap and rotor! and now it looks like an alternator is next. if so Im getting the Repair Kit!

    Has anyone Repaired their own Alt? if so PM me please, can use some advice : ) Thanks

  • step 1 buy new alternator, step 2 install new alternator. rebuilding it is a little cheaper but i dont see the point in it honestly

  • Is there any symptoms with your car when the brushes are begining to wear?

  • actually the stator IS the armature on an alternator and the field rotates
