These are the hard letters in Korean. They are not too hard to make, people just have considerably more trouble distinguishing. These follow the rules of consonants because they are consonants!
RELAXED - little air, chillaxed, very hard for English speakers to distinguish, default for Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish ... when I listen to French I have a problem with mixing these up too)
ASPIRATED - LOTS OF AIR, default for English speakers
TENSED - NO AIR, quick, tense, pitch of vowel goes up
ㅂ b/p
ㅍ p
ㅃ pp
ㄱ g/k
ㅋ k
ㄲ kk
ㄷ d/t
ㅌ t
ㄸ tt
ㅈ j
ㅊ ch
ㅉ jj
ㅅ s
ㅆ ss

  • You are by far the best at explaining Korean sounds to an English speaker I have ever seen. I'm an English tutor (and most of my students are Korean) so I know what it takes to teach language: there's an official way, and then there's the way that actually makes sense to people. THANK YOU for teaching it the way it actually makes sense! Subscribed!

  • @katiekawaii I am so happy because that's exactly what I was going for. :D I'm so glad it's working. Thanks for watching and subbing!

  • I have to say, as I understand, technically, your saying that the p and t in spa and stop are tensed, is incorrect. They are simply unaspirated; I always see them described as such & I agree.

HOWEVER, your saying it is still a GREAT example because it DOES work! Unless the person strongly pronounces the consonants, when said a bit slowly, I feel like your example was totally correct!

And I can tell you this vid made me figure out exactly how to pronounce the tense consonants. Very helpful! :D

  • @Sp3ctre18 :( Yes... I know, stop ruining my example. But I kinda had to stretch it to make it work, because ppl tend to think it's hard but it's actually pretty simple because they CAN make the sound. =D You must love languages too to know that, nice.

I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for watching and if you have any questions you can send me an email!

  • I'm your biggest 펜!!

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! :D

  • you make this so much easier than learning from actual korean people. They just tell you that "바" and "파" are absolutely different without explanation and i get confused because they sound so similar. I guess one need someone who went through all the tough situations to learn korean to teach one korean. YOU are perfect because you went through all the problems im experiencing right now and you're making it easier on my life. So, THANK YOU!

  • @KoreanSimplyPut Heh, I see, I follow you. :) And yeah, I'm very much into languages. I already have enough languages that I'm actively learning so I'm not learning Korean, but I do have a side endeavor to learn various writing systems. Thus, I have learned how to read and - partly with your help - how to pronounce Hangeul properly....even though I won't know what I'm saying. =D
