By Botello..Millions of Mexicans commemorate December 12th as the day when Mary the Mother of Jesus miraculously appeared to St. Juan Diego and spoke to him in his native Nahuatl language at Tepeyac in Tenochtitlan in 1531.

Mary mysteriously imprinted her image on Juan Diego's indigenous mantle known as the tilma. This tilma is kept at the altar of the Basilica of Guadalupe a Church that Mary had asked Juan Diego to have built in her honor at Tepayac.

Scientists have examined the image on the tilma and say that the dye of the image is of an unknown origin. They are also baffled as to why after 465 years the tilma has no sign of deterioration.

This sacred site is the most popular site in the world for pilgrimages second to the Vatican. Every December 12th famous singers and bands perform inside of the Basilica to pay their homage and sing to Virgin Mary of Guadalupe.

The Hill at Tepeyac previously had a pyramid which was built to honor Tonantzin the Mother Goddess and Lunar Deity of the Mexica Tribe. Many people seem to believe that the Beautiful Brown Skinned Virgin of Guadalupe and the Beautiful Brown Skinned Goddess Tonantzin are one and the same being.

According to Indigenous Tradition the black ribbon around her waist indicates that Mary is pregnant with Jesus. It is the only image of Mary that depicts her pregnancy.

In ancient Indigenous teachings Tonantzin is also representative of the duality of the Cosmos, a concept which similarly is found in the Ancient Jewish Esoteric Tradition of Kabbalah which states that when God (who is without gender) manifests itself for the purpose of creation and creating it becomes dual: male & female.

All over the world the moon symbolizes everything that is of a femenine nature.

In esoterism we study that the crescent moon symbolizes force in action.WebMaster: Mario Botello, Gtls. Evelyn Frances: description in English

  • It always strikes me, when these performers sing to the Virgin, they turn their backs to the congregation & face her. Why is it that the priests no longer face towards God when they perform the Mass? I'm not trying to be controversial or complaining here. I find it striking how they do naturally what once was done normatively.
