On October 16, IFT joined 450 national and private organizations to celebrate World Food Day. This public awareness effort, an annual campaign that commemorates the 1945 founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is designed to promote increased understanding of hunger issues and the need for access to nutritious food worldwide.
As a World Food Day National Sponsor, IFT has developed a wide array of resources that examine the role of food scientists in feeding our rapidly growing population-- a population expected to reach 9 billion by the year 2050. In this audio interview, IFT interviews the recipient of the 2007 World Food Prize, Dr. Philip E. Nelson about the use of his aseptic processing and packaging innovation in reducing post-harvest waste, making many fruits and vegetables available year-round, and easier to transport worldwide.
