This video shows you how to replace your iPhone 3G/3GS front panel.

Fixing your iPhone is quick and easy! Find replacement parts for your iPhone at: http://www.ifixit.com/iPhone-Parts

The first thing to know to is what part you need to replace. On the original iPhone display, the glass, touchscreen digitizer, and LCD display were inseparably glued together. Fortunately, Apple changed their design and the iPhone 3G and 3GS front panel glass is not glued to the LCD behind it. This is great news, because most of the time when you break the glass the LCD itself is fine.

If you want to save a little time, you can buy a complete front panel assembly that includes the LCD and the front panel glass.

Make sure you get the right part for your phone—the iPhone 3G and 3GS require different parts.

  • Hi, I bought something on ebay where they advertise as a replacement outer screen glass which looks like the outer screen but does not have any ribbons/ cables attached to it... Did I purchase the wrong item?? I see in most if not all tutorials that it has ribbons/ cables

    Thanks

  • @aber99fitch Sounds like you got JUST the glass, and not the entire front panel assembly. If only the glass is broken, you got the right thing, but if the glass AND lcd are broken then you'll need the front panel assembly. Hope that helps!

  • is there a tutorial on how to put everything back together once your done replacing everything ... ?

  • @12345678tapout While we don't have videos for that, I'd recommend following the instructions on the repair guide in reverse order. (That's what I do, anyway.) --mj

  • She's got a super NICE RACK!! Do you think they are real?

  • i have a broken digitizer does that mean i have to take apart the frame assembly from the glass or just replace the whole thing?

  • That was a stupid vid, you didn't even show how to connect the wires back to the iPhone.?!?

  • @aber99fitch

The glass should come with a ribbon. If it's just the glass itself then you won't be able to get the iPhone to respond to your touch. The ribbon is called the digitizer and this is what will make the phone a touch screen. If there is no ribbon, you can't just purchase a ribbon and attach it to the glass. You need to return the glass itself to the seller and demand a refund. These sellers are scam artists who prey on people who don't know much about the iPhone assembly
