    no he only removed the subject matter because he believed that only though an artwork with no subject matter can True meaning be derived, he believed that by banishing the subject matter he could express an enlightened consciousness to better society.

    he didn't remove meaning. 1st of all meaning is something you, the viewer, put into art, not the other way around. 2ndly art is a conversation with all the art that has come before and will follow. mondrian made us look at color and balance and arrangement outside representation. that does not dent representative art, it gives us a vocabulary to discuss it, a new context to understand it with
