Northrop Grumman has developed the only 360 degree, spherical situational awareness system in the electro-optical distributed aperture system (DAS). The DAS surrounds the aircraft with a protective sphere of situational awareness. It warns the pilot of incoming aircraft and missile threats as well as providing day/night vision, fire control capability and precision tracking of wingmen/friendly aircraft for tactical maneuvering.

Designated the AN/AAQ-37, and comprising six electro-optical sensors, the full EO DAS will enhance the F-35's survivability and operational effectiveness by warning the pilot of incoming aircraft and missile threats, providing day/night vision and supporting the navigation function of the F-35's forward-looking infrared sensor.

The DAS provides: * Missile detection and tracking * Launch point detection * Situational awareness IRST & cueing * Weapons support * Day/night navigation

In addition to developing the EO DAS, Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems is supplying the F-35's AN/APG-81 advanced electronically scanned array (AESA) fire-control radar. The AESA radar is designed to enable the pilot to effectively engage air and ground targets at long range, while also providing outstanding situational awareness.

  • @Stridus7: Even the EA-18G? It's the most advanced flying Jammer in the World! It jammed the F-22 & shot it down in a training exercise, look it up! The EA-18G is 4,5th Gen, & could blow every existing fighter plane out of the sky if you have a pretty well trained pilot. South Korea would choose the F-35 over PAK FA, believe me, let's just wait.

  • A lot of you guys don't know crap about anything! Are any of you in the Air Force? Are any of you sure you know anything about the capabilities of Russian 5th generation vs US 5th generation combat aircraft? Sorry but wake up, and smell the coffee! Both the F-22, and now the F-35 are mired by significant design and manufacturing issues. They'll NEVER see combat against advanced Sukhois. Won't happen! Go back to playing your video games please!

  • ......................DAYUM!

  • @RealNarod28 (part2)

So whats stopping the F35 jamming the T50(Su50) radars and sensors? in matter a fact il bet even the EA-18G can jam the T50 and blow it out of the sky afterwards.

its all about electronic warfare now and thats where russia lacks behind.

But il guess we'll find out more about who's really the best at the Korean F-X Phase 3 program.

  • @RealNarod28 Before whining about the F22, how about the F35? Its DAS can lock and shoot its missiles from any angle. no need for supermaneuverability in a dogfight for the F35.

Not only is the JSF a next gen fighter but its also a next gen jammer. its CATbird avionics is proven capable to track and jam the F22's stealthy radars. Its so impressive that the USAF want to upgrade its F22 fleet with the same avionics used on the F35.

    (part1)

  • @RealNarod28 Irbis-E is better than the AN/APG-77?? who told you that? the russians?

Not even 1/3 of the F22's intel is released to the public.

And neither did the russians claim that there N050 radar wil be superior to the AN/APG-77. because they know nothing about it. and neither do you.

  • @RealNarod28

"Probably" means nothing in military terms.

They plan to order 50 in total. They have said nothing about another 50.

  • @Heaney5551 It's official statement from Russian Ministry of Defence. They going to receive first 50, then they probably will order another 50.

  • @RealNarod28

    Nonsense.

Firstly the Russian AIR FORCE operate the Su-35BM.

Secondly they are ordering 50, not "100+". The source claiming over 100 is unreliable.

  • @Heaney5551 Yes, 184 F-22s. But production is stopped.

Russian army just ordered 100+ Su-35BM. (Well actually they ordered 50, but another 50 will be ordered after receiving this 50).
