Before you sign a lease or rent an apartment, take a look around with the landlord or maintenance staff. Take a move-in check list and mark any damage to the apartment. Sign and date it and have the apartment owner or agent sign it right after your walk through.
If you decide to rent the apartment, you will have noted any damages and won't be charged for repairs of those items when you move out.
