JAMES Fox. :-)

The song is "I Am" by Suggs (lyrics below). Films used are (by order of first appearance): THE REMAINS OF THE DAY, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS, SEXY BEAST, DUFFY, PERFORMANCE, THE CHASE, THE RUSSIA HOUSE, ARABELLA, THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN IN THEIR FLYING MACHINES, ISADORA. I would like to have added more, eg GREYSTOKE and MICKEY BLUE EYES, but there wasn't space for it all.

Sorry about the poor picture quality of some of the clips (regrettably, some of these movies have not been released on DVD) and the bad sound quality in some places (some of the dialogue that I wanted to use had music playing in the background).

I wonder if Fox and Bowie exchanged anecdotes about Mick Jagger. :-)

I also made a tribute for Edward Fox:

No copyright abuse intended, but if the owners mind, the video will be deleted, of course.

I am a man
I am what I am
I am a man

I am a man
I do what I can
I am alive

I'm alive!
I'm alive!

Cause What You See is what you get
Yeah my friend, we haven't started yet
One small step for a man
One giant leap for mankind

You've gotta let it go
You've gotta let it be
No, you cannot hide from the devil in me

You've gotta let it go
If you're gonna find
Some kind of peace of mind

I am a man
I am what I am
I am a man

I am a strange
I do what I can
I am man

I am a man
Wouldn't be nothing without
A-my woman

I live and breathe
I am what I am
I am alive

I'm alive!
I'm alive!

Cause What You See is what you get
Yes my friend we haven't started yet
One small step for a man
One giant leap for mankind

You've gotta let it go
You've gotta let it be
No you cannot hide from the devil in me

Let it go
You've gotta let it be
You cannot hide from the devil in me

If you're gonna find
Some kind of peace of mind

[repeat chorus]

Since the sound is very bad in places, here is the dialogue too:

The intro (it is shortened a bit):
You are familiar, I take it, with the facts of life?
Mylord?
The facts of life, Stephens. Birds. Bees. Your are familiar, aren't you?
I'm afraid I don't quite follow you, Sir.
Well, let me put my cards on the table, Stephens. Someone has to tell him.
In a way, it would be easier for you. Less awkward. I mean, I find the task rather daunting, I'm afraid. I might not get around to it till Reginald's wedding day. Of course, this goes far beyond the call of duty, Stephens.
I ... I shall do my best, Mylord.
Be grateful if you'd even try, Stephens. It would be an awful lot off my mind [?]. Look here, there's no need to make a song and dance of it. Just convey the basic facts and be done with it.

Men or women? - Oh ... definitely!
You have a dirty mind!
This is fun! Is that why you keep it secret?
He's an old queen, and I call it disgusting!
I love driving on the wrong side of the road, don't you?
Very nice! You look just like a girl!
I feel like a man! A man, all the time. - That's awful! That's what's wrong with you, isn't it? - What do you mean? - A man's man's world! - There's nothing wrong with me! I'm normal!
Gee, that's nice to hear, but I know I can do better! - I'm your equal! I must meet you men on your own terms. Cater to your craving for efficiency, learn to talk sports, tell jokes, smoke, drink ... Yes, if I have to, I will even kiss you back! - Gee, I never met a modern before! - My beauty spot!
What a drag!
Normal game? - Well, something abnormal would be more amusing.
Good morning!

  • Yeah...why aren't there scenes of The Day of the Jackal.....he was great in that film dammit.

  • @zerokomma You know better than that ... by now. LOL ;-)

  • I'm surprised you didn't put any scenes from "The Day of the Jackal" .. it is a brilliant film.

  • @ohmannhey I couldn't agree with you more ... except that it's with James' brother EDWARD Fox. I made a tribute for him too, as well as for the film. :-) As I wrote in the comments on my vid for Edward, personally I don't understand why the two are confused so often. But you are in good company. It has even happened in official filmographies etc.

  • @aplantage

WOW ... Good grief do they look so much alike?

Nice Vid by the way ...

  • @ohmannhey Thank you! I don't think that they look very much alike, nor do they play similar roles. I knew them both, never confused them, and for a while it didn't even occur to me that they might be related. It's a mystery to me. But I know that it happens often. They've even mentioned the fact themselves in interviews. If you check out the other vids, I'd be interested to know what you think. :-)

  • May 19th , Happy Birthday, James Fox !

  • @Mavrilon Thanks very much! Glad you like it. Those two movies are TV recordings. DUFFY has recently been released on DVD (in widescreen).

  • I love this ! I adore James Fox ! Where did you find copies of ARABELLA and DUFFY they're not available on VHS od DVD in the US

  • @zerokomma Don't know about Fox as a person, so I would like to stress that this is about his screen characters, the themes of his films etc. From what I've read he may regret some of his films a bit. I hope not. I think several are among the most interesting and important ever made, and it seems to me that his contribution to them is not acknowledged enough.
