For those that don't know this movement depicts the procession of Ala, the sun god. First, the courtiers, then, beginning at 3:17, Ala himself - i.e. dawn. If you watch carefully, Gergiev adds a remarkable touch of theatre as the lights mimic the colors of the sunrise and gradually rise the blinding bright white. Really effective

That timpani roll near :35 is deadly.

Isn't it around 5:20 that Glazunov was said to have walked out...? I can see why HAHA! That is pretty loud, especially with the percussion.
I'm surprised he stayed for ANY of it.

The Ending the so called Sunrise Section is one of the greatest moments in all of Prokofiev

I've heard that Gergiev's ancestors were Scythian, that is why he is so much into this piece. Great work; great playing; great conducting! Thanks Bolknakker

Just love the way the conductor gives a signal to the double basses around 4:42. Excellent!

On the radio broadcast - a different performance, but this even better - you can actually hear stunned audience members saying "Wow!"
