The "English" version had the same music as the Japanese version, all of Europe did.
The American version had the alternate music.

The music is NOT FROM SONIC CD JAPAN. IT IS FROM THE US VERSION I PLAYED IT THROUGH AND THIS IS NOT THE JAPANESE MUSIC. I HAVE THE SOUNDTRACK THIS IS NOT THE JAPANESE MUSIC. NOT NOT NOT NOT JAPANESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This appears to the the European version too.

you could tell this was before Sonic the hedgehog 2, because of the spin dash in this game, it was just released later
