from msnbc: Atash Hagmahani is not waiting for the stock market to recover. The former high-tech professional turned urban survivalist has already moved his money into safer investments: Rice and beans, for starters.
I hoard food, says Hagmahani, 44, estimating that he has enough to last his family a year or two. Im not ashamed to admit it.

My Grandma, before she died, talked much of the when day when a collapse of the USA would some day come!! She was so vivid in here comments about how the world is changing for the worse!! Greed, selfishness and power were of the three things she kept on saying is what would cause this action!!!
She is correct, RIP grandma!!

Rob - the survivalist in Seattle - does he know that the Pacific NW is being hammered with radiation from Fukushima? Can't survive on irradiated food grown in the garden outside.

I see all these vids about the end of the world this and that. Now is stock piles of food at your house smart lets put this into a real life demo . You have a house hold of food and a town of hungry people. 1 draws 2 2 draws 3 next you have 10 then 20. soon you are over run and killed or just run off. I know some will say i have 1000 guns well you wont kill a town off before they kill you. Im just sayin is all lol. Dont come running to me when all the you tubers come after all your food.

Being Fore-Warned is being Fore-Armed and that is half of the Battle Won!
But what impresses me is that even our more liberal friends are starting to come around to the fact that we are in a Severe Economic Crisis, & that if we do Not change course, we are headed over the cliff to Govt Rationing, Famine and Starvation. Positioning yourself for Surviving a Crisis is just Smart Planning and worth the Investment.
Remember that the Strong take from the Weak and the Smart take away from the Strong!!!

Odd how this is seen as extreme! His lifestyle is pretty normal in much of the world. In my part of the world. I walk everywhere, buy flour, rice, sugar, tea, oil etc in bulk, garden and bake my own bread. I know how to pickle food and how to make jam. I can also brew beer. I thought I was just a normal british old guy--everyone I know is pretty much the same. We did have a crisis here--the war--and this man is right. It's shortage and rationing you need to prepare for, not flesh eating zombies

Thats what I'm saying...you will be going to their country and they will be coming to yours. It doesn't solve the problem.

What kind of seed produces $3000,
pot, hemp?

@ameetcoeur sadly many local farms in south west Nebraska are paid by tax payers not to grow anything, so the land sets idle.
a massive effort to teach children to grow food, to can, dry and freeze food would make this nation quite strong again.
My mother told in 1929 when the depression hit, there was little notice of it as they grew their own food& medicine, made their own cloths, and cut their own firewood.
