It's a far cry from today when a guy sat at his desk with a computer screen and keyboard remarks that he's had a "hard day at work" - these were "real men" doing "mens work" ! Brilliant film, thanks for posting.

An extremely interesting film. It was a real team effort and a lot of hard work in those days. Thanks for uploading it - have made it a favourite.

Excellent film

No wonder steam was replaced with diesel and electric traction, and the loco illustrated represents the ultimate, in design terms, of the British steam locomotive.

Interesting. I'd never seen a British engine being watered and didn't
know it took both members of the crew.

very informative, I learned a lot watching this

@TomNall the engines only had this treatment once a month or so

@waldenhouse and the kinda work i love :)
Very interesting to see just how much work was involved in keeping a steam engine running. I was feeling a bit uncomfortable with those scenes of guys getting into the firebox; I wonder if anyone ever got stuck inside?

@JimTLonW6
It was common practice to lock the new guy inside the firebox as a practical joke.
